Wash Column Technology

GEA Messo PT has patented two types of wash column technologies. Both types use mechanical compresssion to move the crystal bed through the column and are therefore classified as forced transport type columns. The illustration shows a continuous "screw-type" column that uses a rotating screw for bed compression and transport. Once the slurry feed enters the column most of the liquid is removed through a filter. The crystals are then forced through the column where they are washed to remove any remaining impurities.
